The Split Board Binding.

The Split Board Binding consists of two boards glued together with a gap of about one inch from the shoulder that allows the spine lining and endsheet stub in be inserted between the boards. The result is a strong board attachment well suited for heavy duty bindings, such as stationer's bindings.
This split board model was sewn on
tapes, with cloth hinged endsheets.
