Happy Hour!
The SAA-UT will be holding a Happy Hour next week! It's a great opportunity for SAA members or anyone with an interest in archives, records management, and related fields to meet with each other. The board also has a lot of great plans for this year, and we'd like to have everyone's input! So come to drink, eat, talk, and be merry!

When: Tues., Feb. 12 at 5.30pm
Where: Scholz Biergarten at 16th & San Jacinto

Next Meeting - Mar. 5th at 5pm in SZB 556
Please, join us! We will discuss several topics:

  • update on the Mexico trip
  • topic ideas for Archives Week
  • creation of a fundraising committee under Simon Staats
  • collection of $5/semester membership dues

Also, Olga G. Leontieva will be speaking to us about her experience with archives in Russia. Click here for her bio.

Post-March 5th General Meeting Information:

If you could not come, Olga Leontieva gave a wonderful talk on the archival system in Russia and described the differences between the system under the Soviet Union and now under the Russian Federation.

We also discussed ideas about Archives Week (all ideas welcome!) and the new Fundraising Committee that Treasurer Simon Staats will be heading (please join!).

Information on the Mexico Trip is also available now (see below), as well as how to join the National SAA's Student Discussion list on the Listserv page.

Meeting minutes for this meeting are available in Microsoft Word .doc format.; also February 21st board meeting minutes are now available.

Mexico Trip Information from VP Caitlin Bumford:

Greetings from the Frigid North, Fellow Archivists!

For those of you who weren't able to make it to SAA's first chapter meeting of the semester, we are planning on taking a weekend road trip to archives on the Texas-Mexico border this coming May. At Wednesday's meeting, we briefly introduced our rough idea of the trip, and I passed around handouts with what basic information we currently have. The handout I made up containing the very rough details we have at this point in time is available in Microsoft Word (.doc) format. Please take some time to consider this fun way to expand your professional horizons in the world of archival enterprise. After looking over the handout, please be sure to fill out this brief survey on surveymonkey.com about your level of interest and which possible weekend you can/would prefer to travel.

Thanks,
Caitlin
