GETTING TO KNOW YOU

Assignment Title: Discussion Board Logon and Profile Update.

Participation: Individual.

Due date: 24 January 2001.

Format: Discussion board posts.

Submission Method: Post to the discussion board.

Maximum points: Part of course participation.

Introduction: The students in the first offering of LIS 386.13 expressed concern that they knew little about their colleagues taking the course. The intent of this biographical information is to fill that void and help students become better acquainted with each other. The information listed in this section will not be available to folks outside the discussion board. Nevertheless, it is the student's option not to provide specific personal information if she or he does not desire to. We encourage each student to share what he or she is comfortable with and to talk with others, the TAs, and the professor in person during (or even after) the course.

Goals: The goals of this assignment are threefold:

  • To provide the student familiarity with the Discussion board that will be used throughout the course.

  • To provide other students with biographical information on yourself.

  • To learn basic scanning techniques and how to post a scanned image

Tasks: For this assignment, you will:

  1. Log on to the discussion board using the password provided by your TAs.

  2. Read the tutorial information available on the board on how to use it.

  3. Complete your profile.

  4. Practice using the board in the Playground topic.

  5. Scan and post a picture of yourself so others will recognize you outside of class.

  6. Read the profiles of your colleagues and say hello on the discussion board.
