Competitive
Analysis
Reviewing the content and
organization of other incubator websites will help baseline
information on these types of websites. This is a subjective
evaluation looking broadly at content categories, organization,
and functionality of the websites.

Overall General Observations:
Obvious top-level link names that distinguish between resourcesfor
the specific user (such as applying for money), versus an
overview of available services, must exist for ease of navigation.
News, contact/directions, and About the incubator information
is important.
Need to have a balance between being a start-up’s
“portal” (eg, linking to IRS Tax Forms) and
having only incubator-generated content.
Listings of current companies just tend to be one long page…
is there another design that would be more effective? Group
by category? Date incubated?
Process information should be clearly outlined; not sure
about the necessity of flow-chart diagrams showing process.

This site uses two levels of navigation to bring
out all of the major content areas. There is some
link name confusion between Inventors, Industry, and
Entrepreneurs, but overall it is mostly clear what
is available on this site.

- Resources for Inventors
- Opportunities for Industry
- Opportunities for Entrepreneurs
- Opportunities for Students

A fairly flat structure, this web site doesn't have
enough complex user goals (eg., no one would apply for
funding on this site.) This is mainly a "brochure"
web site that provides links to specific content that
must be then dealt with somewhere else.

Links and content are very wordy overall - nothing
particularly noteworthy.

Link names are mostly action-oriented, without really
a focus on distinguishing between different audiences
between the links. The How to Apply and Review Process
sections may be worth pursuing for further ideas on
how to structure the same for ATI.

No sub-level navigation under the main links, so pages
are very very long. Like the ATDC web site, there is
nothing particularly outstanding to note.

The top level links didn't have appropriate weighting
between them… About had a lot of sub-links,
while Tenants just left you with the list of current
companies. Might be confusing if Tenants though it
would be something like "Resources for Tenants",
which really were found under Services. News was only
listed on the home page.
