DESCRIPTION OF CURRENT YOUTH/CHILDREN'S SERVICES

This is my third library since graduation. The first two were elementaries and now I am in a high school. I see my primary contribution as a "collection re-vitalizer," first checking bibliographies to see what holes need to be plugged, then moving on to adding books and other materials as needed for curriculum support. I try not to get discouraged because, as one of my mentors says, "It takes 5 years to get a library in shape." I was in my first library for 5 years and yes, it was getting there! I only stayed in the second one 1 1/2 years and made a good start there before moving on to a high school library, where I have been just a little more than a year. The high school is the greater challenge because it is a larger and more needy collection, because of several years of rapid turnover in leadership.
