Format

This is a CD-ROM only product but each special test, the review notes and a Body System Lesson plan can be printed as well as all anatomical images. Labels and pinned anatomical structures are covered in three types of images: anatomical illustrations (exterior), radiographs (x-rays), and cadaver dissection photographs.

A student can begin with the exterior body or reveal individual muscles, nerves, blood vessels and internal organs. The human body is divided into the following regions: Head and Neck, Upper Limb, Body Wall & Back, Thorax, Abdomen, Pelvis & Perineum, and Lower Limb.

“Test mode lets you create and take randomly-generated tests based on options you specify, or take one of the Sample Tests provided for each system.” The program allows each test to be modified to a specified region. It also allows the choice between ‘Identify the pinned structure’ format or the ‘Objective format’. The objective format is matched items. At the end of your test individual results or score can be viewed. A test may be timed.

Audience

The intended audience for Anatomy Practice is undergraduate college students and upper division high school students.

Purpose

For becoming proficient in identifying anatomical parts of the human body this product goes well into providing an exhaustive list of image in a creative and well-detailed format. “The flexibility and depth makes [this program] a valuable tool…”

Extras

Printable quick reference cards and explanation of options. The users guide states an online help is provided but the website is not in operation or has been dropped. The online help doesn’t work.

Interface

The program specifies the use of 256 colors and the detail is enhanced with this setting. There are over 14,000 possible identification pins and the outlined structure provides for great ease in navigating around the human body. The menu or function keys are few and uncomplicated.

Summary

In general this is an excellent software tool and is well suited to any secondary biology class. The amount of material can easily support any curriculum or lesson. The simplified organization can allow a student to use the program without any supervision and allows students to set their own pace.
