GATEWAY FOR KIDS
Hi! Welcome to our web site for kids and teens! As you may have noticed,
we are in Texas. Specifically, we are students, teachers, and alumni
of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at
the University of Texas at Austin. This is a school where people go
to learn how to be librarians and to do other jobs where they manage
information, like archivists, conservators, systems administrators (look
these up in a dictionary), and webmasters.
While this gateway is part of a larger site, most of the information
that kids and young adults will find interesting is on this page. For
everything else, check out the menu to the left. Meanwhile, enjoy looking
at some sites that we think are great!
Internet Basics for Kids and Teens
OK, so you probably do know everything about "netiquette"
(how to behave when you're on the Internet), Internet health, and knowing
how to make sure a web site is any good, but let's review the rules
and make sure. There are some not-so-good sites out there and some people
who might try to mess with you, and it's your mission to avoid them
all! If you do, you'll be happier, and so will your parents, your teachers,
and all the librarians you love!
Kidlinks (For Teens Too)
Here you can check out lots of great web sites that are organized
by general subject ("General subject" means that if you want
to see if we have anything on dinosaurs, look in "Science and Math").
Kidsearch (Yes, it's also for YAs)
These are links to search engines designed with you in mind, and other
sites that are really "link directories!" Wondering what YAs
are? Well, they're young adults!
Just for Teens
This page has links just for teens, from public library youth pages
to college admissions information. Teens, don't miss this page!
Library Links
Here are links to other libraries around. Some sites belong to libraries
with real buildings and other sites are "virtual libraries;"
libraries that are just on the Web!
