DESCRIPTION OF CURRENT YOUTH/CHILDREN'S SERVICES

"I believe there is a book that will make every student a reader. It shouldn't be about page numbers or overt curriculum tie-in."

Cynthia Leitich Smith, author of Jingle Dancer and Rain Is Not My Indian Name in an interview. Teacher Librarian, October 2001.

This is pretty much my philosophy, too. So it's not just about protecting the district's and taxpayers' investment of books, but also about exploiting this opportunity, to hook the children really deeply! Then they can't live without books, information, and the excitement of ideas. Or maybe they can, but they won't be happy. Isn't that literacy, in the best sense?
