09/12/2001 Minutes
-
In attendance:
Marlene, Violet, Dave, Rhonda, Randolph, Leah, Eleanor, Kristi
-
There was concern voiced about Kayla,
who was struggling to get home from Washington, D.C.
-
Completed action items
from previous meeting:
- Rhonda
posted survey results on web site.
- Violet is maintaining web site.
- David submitted short summary of the QMC to the IAG web site.
- Chris has given Rhonda and Violet access to IAG web site.
- Rhonda distributed minutes of last meeting with various pertinent
distribution lists.
-
Two proposals were offered
for IAG projects.
- Kristi. Research wizard. To help undergraduates
find resources, help them choose the correct database. This project
would entail the creation of a product (rather than evaluation of
an existing design). The product would allow the student to create
a bibliography, create an outline for the paper. We would focus
on freshman composition courses. The project would be a "proof
of concept," encompassing only the undergraduate library. IAG
member emeritus Steve Schang would help with the architecture of
the design. Randolph agreed to ask English professor John Slatin
if he had any ideas about financial support from the English department.
- Eleanor. The UT Performing Arts Center web site (www.utpac.org)
has poor accessibility. The webmasters are interested in some evaluation
by the IAG. Eleanor says it's not a difficult site. High profile.
People involved are involved in UT, in the community. Eleanor is
to invite them to the next meeting, to let them demo their site
to us, and demonstrate their willingness to make changes, potentially,
as a result of our work. This gave Randolph the idea of adding to
selection criteria the following criterion: Host group voices willingness
to make a change in response to our findings.
-
Violet is going to
change the IAG web site. Rhonda encouraged her to update the style
guide, to keep it consistent with the design. Violet is going to
generate a couple of templates for the IAG to consider. Leah encouraged
her to share the designs with the IAG members, for our feedback.
Also, IAG members are encouraged to tell Violet of any books they
have that might be of interest to other IAG members. Violet agreed
to maintain a list.
Violet agreed to bring a demo cart to meetings when
we need one (including at the next meeting).
Violet needs an IAG distribution list. Kristi to
pursue the old list from Steve S. New members should send a bio
and picture to Violet.
Randolph agreed to share news about the IAG in his
Tuesday evening class on Information Architecture and Usability
Engineering.
- Next Meeting Time: Wednesday,
9/19/2001, Noon.
Respectfully submitted,
Randolph Bias.
