We’re nearly finished, but we must title our page. I’ll type “Libby’s
Web page” in the title field in the main toolbar. This is the title that
will appear at the top of the browser window. It is important to title your pages,
if you don’t the browser will read “Untitled Document”.
Before we load all of this onto the web, let’s see what it’ll look
like in a browser. Go to File on the main toolbar, then to “Preview in Browser”,
select the default or add your own. I’m going to use Internet Explorer.
It looks great, well…exactly as it did in Dreamweaver. Some colors aren’t
very readable on top of each other. Notice the ”Address” field begins
with a c://? That shows we are viewing a file on our machine, in the c:// drive.
If this file were on the web it would begin with the protocol, typically hypertext
transfer protocol or http.
I think we’re ready to post it on the Web. Go to the main toolbar, under
File, click Save. Open your “Site” window and highlight “index.html”,
click the blue arrow to put files on the Internet. You’ll be asked if you
want to include dependent files. Since we linked a picture, I’ll say “yes”.
This ensures Dreamweaver carries all the image paths to the server successfully.
Our index page has appeared in the “Remote site” window so the transfer
was successful. Let’s double-check through Internet Explorer.
If you are on the ischool homepage, much of your typing has been done for you.
Add a slash, tilde, your login, and press return. Your masterpiece should appear
exactly as you intended. Best of luck in all your web publishing endeavors!
