To enter text into your document, just move your mouse over one of these boxes with a dotted border – here - and click once inside of it. Now I’m going to enter some text, here, and again over here. These boxes are called “placeholders”. They are also sometimes called “text boxes”. To get out of a placeholder, simply click outside of it in this empty space here.

To insert a new slide into your presentation, go to “Insert” and select “New Slide”. You’ll notice that a few things have changed. Over here in the Slides pane, you’ll notice that we now have two slides. You’ll also notice that the second one has a heavy border, which means that that’s the slide you’re viewing in the workspace over here. Over to the right, you’ll notice that the New Presentations pane has disappeared, and instead, we see the Slide Layout pane. The Slide Layout pane allows us to select from different layouts, which you can see over here. So, if for instance we wanted to change the current layout to one that has two columns, over here, we simply click once on this layout.

This layout with a title and two columns allows us to create bulleted lists in your slide. Let’s go ahead and add some text to the second slide. I’ll put a title in there, and then I’m going to put some individual points into the columns. Now, you’ll notice that when I hit the <enter> key, PowerPoint adds another bulleted point to my list, like that. Now I’m going to add some more points, over here.

Now, I’m going to go ahead and add another slide to this presentation, but this time, I’m going to pick exactly where in this presentation I’d like this slide to be inserted. I’m going to take my mouse over here to the Slides pane, and position it right in between slides number one and two. The point were the line is flashing – right here - is where the new slide will go. Now all I have to do is go to “Insert” and select “New Slide”, and the new slide appears where just where we want it.

To delete slides from your presentation, you have two different options. Your first option is simply to go to the “Edit” menu and select “Delete Slide”, and you’ll see that that slide we were currently working on has disappeared. The other option is to go to the Slides pane, select the slide you want to delete – and we’ll go ahead and select number two, right here - and just simply hit the <delete> key. You’ll see that that second slide has disappeared.
