Common Mac Software

Macs come with a large number of preinstalled programs.   If you are familiar with these programs, you can easily accomplish almost any task on a Mac.   Many programs standard on PCs, such as Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer, are also often installed on Macs.

This tutorial is not the place for advanced instructions on each program.   However, it will provide a basic introduction to programs commonly appearing in the Dock to show you what they can do and give you enough information to explore them.

The iSchool provides a variety of tutorials on specific software.   Consult our tutorial list at www.ischool.utexas.edu/technology/tutorials for more in-depth coverage of many of the programs mentioned here.
