Opening and Closing Tabs

To browse with tabs, you must first let Mozilla know that this is what you'd like to do. 

Don't panic if you don't see the tab bar when you first open Mozilla.  By default, the tab bar doesn't appear at all until you open your first tab.  Here's how:

Opening a New Tab from the File Menu

1. Go to the top toolbar, click on File.
2. Select New in the first drop-down menu.
3. Click on Navigator Tab.

This will open your tab bar for the first time, as well as a new blank page in your browser window. 

Notice that Mozilla has instantly set aside two new tabs: one for the page you started from, and one Untitled tab.  This is your cue to direct your browser to a new page of your choice.  Just enter a web address in the top Location Bar.

Now your new tab marks the spot--and re-labels itself.

Opening a New Tab with the Tab Bar

Once you've opened your Tab Bar, you can open new tabs by directing your mouse to the Tab Icon at the far left side of the Tab Bar.   Every click loads a new Untitled tab:

Now you can open as many separate tabs as you like.   Click around and get used to a more freeform, non-linear form of browsing.

Closing Tabs

As your search progresses, you'll change your mind about which tabs you still want open, and which sites you're done with.

There are several quick ways to close your tabs:

• From the Top Toolbar:  First, select the tab you'd like to close.  Click File on the top toolbar, then select Close Tab from the drop-down menu.
  
• From the Tab Bar: Clicking the "X" on the far right-hand side of the Tab Bar will close the most recently opened tab.
  
• With your mouse: Right-Click on your tab and select Close Tab from the drop-down menu that appears.  Notice that you can also choose to Close All Tabs.
