Saving your page

In order to fully utilize Dreamweaver's site management functionality, files and images must be saved appropriately. First, a little about the interface:

  • Dreamweaver allows many different paths to the same outcome. You may use the main toolbar (figure 1), the Properties window (figure 2), or the Insert window (figure 3).

  • Type in the document window as you would in a Word document. You may notice that many of the icons Dreamweaver uses are quite similar to Word.
  • To save your document, go to the main toolbar > File > Save. A window will appear asking where you would like to save your file. Choose the folder you designated as your "local folder" in the site wizard. Use lowercase letters and no spaces when naming your files. Note: Naming a web page"index.html" sets that file as the automatic default page for the directory.
  • If you look at your site window, your recently saved file should appear on the righthand side in your local folder.
