The Information Technology Services group plans, implements, supports, and promotes information technology systems use for School of Information students, faculty, and staff. The Information Technology Lab, with access to the latest computer and AV technology, premium software, a variety of digital imaging tools, and a helpful, friendly support staff (look for the purple shirts!), is located on the first floor of UTA. To contact the lab, please call (512) 471-3991 or email itlab-tech@ischool.utexas.edu.

New Student?

Don't forget to sign up for a School of Information account (so you can get your iSchool email address and server space)! For more information about how to use your School of Information account, check out the How to Use Your School of Information Account tutorial, which walks you through signing up for your account, changing your password, checking your email, and posting webpages to your School of Information server space.

Free Technology Boot Camps

The IT Lab purpleshirts are proud to present "Boot Camp Basics" and "Boot Camp Web." These courses are designed to give incoming and returning iSchoolers a chance to learn about applications and technologies frequently used in classes. The idea behind Boot Camp is to combine the most commonly-asked questions from the Lab and the most popular short courses with the goal of helping students get ahead in courses. You are welcome to sign up for both classes or just one. Both classes are FREE!

IT Lab

The IT Lab is a great place for students to go between classes, for group meetings, and for quiet study sessions. The space has recently undergone an update, complete with purple couches, comfy chairs, and pillows in complementing tones. All of this in addition to the two rooms full of Macs and PCs just waiting for some attention! Even better, the IT Lab is the hub of activity for the Purpleshirts, the iSchool Teaching Assistants who staff the Lab and provide helpful information and assitance on a variety of subjects as wide and varied as application available. So stop by and check us out: IT Lab Information, including hours

Where there's a problem, there's a tutorial!

Streaming media tutorials covering a vast array of tasks and applications are available in the Tutorials section. Most of these tutorials consist of quick videos you can watch online, clear instructions for browsing, or handouts you can print and take with you. Tutorial handouts are also available in the IT Lab, along with short and sweet one-page tutorials.

Current Short Course Schedule

IT Services offers free classes on various computer topics for School of Information students, faculty, and staff. Subjects range from operating systems like Unix to instruction in image design and specific applications such as Macromedia Dreamweaver. Check out our Short Course page for the latest schedule and information on requesting a short course. The IT Lab Staff is always interested in hearing your suggestions and is happy to work with students one-on-one or in groups.
