Fellowship Details

The primary goal of the PhD Preservation Fellowship initiative is to produce doctoral students in preservation prepared to meet the preservation education, research, and leadership challenges of the 21st century, and who will serve as faculty members in preservation, as preservation researchers, and in leading administrative positions in libraries.

We are interested in applicants whose academic and professional backgrounds might include preservation administration, conservation, archives, digital libraries, digital preservation, moving image and sound preservation, and information policy, to name a few.

The PhD Preservation Fellowships offer a generous living stipend and will pay tuition and fees for three years of full-time study. Five fellowships are available through this IMLS-supported initiative.

  • Academic Year 2008-09 (Fall, Spring, Summer) - $25,000 stipend + $17,293 tuition/fees
  • Academic Year 2009-10 (Fall, Spring, Summer) - $26,500 stipend + $18,158 tuition/fees
  • Academic Year 2010-11 (Fall, Spring, Summer) - $28,090 stipend + $19,066 tuition/fees

*Tuition is based on out-of-state rates.
