<title>Introduction</title>

<text>Chapin-l was inagurated in November 25, 1995 by Juan Guevara (California State University, Chico) and Guido Solares (Massachussetts Institute of Technology). It became the first discussion list on the internet dedicated specially to cover topics about Guatemala.

Some of the services this list provides:

Although Chapin-L relates to Guatemala, by no means this limits the topics to be discussed in this list. They will be limited only by the members themselves, or by the list administrators if necessary (we believe this will never have to take place).

There is no official language to be used by the list members. Any cultural language is acceptable as long as a member other than the sender understands what the message is about.

Chapin-L is meant to be a chatty list. Do not expect the list to deal only with formal issues. Please do not send your personal complaints to all the members, it would be better if you direct them to the list administrators or to the person involved in the issue.

Do not hesitate if you are so happy with this list, that you want to send the list administrators a gift. These might include (in Spanish): Un plato de comida tipica, especialmente con frijolitos negros Una Prensa Libre, Una "GALLO bien fria," Pollo Campero, etc.</text>
