Teresa Diaz, '99 Alum, Honored on "People to Watch" List

The June 2003 issue of School Library Journal (SLJ) features, "People to Watch: Ten leaders who are making a difference in school and public libraries."

Teresa Diaz, a 1999 MLIS graduate from the School of Information has been named one of the top ten "People to Watch" by SLJ. A librarian at Johnston HS in Austin ISD since 1999, serving a 64% Hispanic, 20% Black student population, she has featured Banned Books Week and created a Teen Advisory Board for students to discuss and review books and promote reading. As of 2001, Johnston HS is no longer a low-performing school according to the TEA rating system.

Ms. Diaz is also the recipient of the 2003 American Association of School Librarians' Francis Henne Award (recognizes a school librarian with five years or less who demonstrates leadership qualitites with students, teachers and administrators.)
