Welcome to my resource page for the Greater Austin Area Telecommunications Network (GAATN). This page was created to help me with my research into the GAATN Project, and to serve as an organizational tool in keeping up with various sources concerning GAATN, fiber-optic networks, telecommunications law, cable franchise issues, and the various entities that make up the GAATN partnership.
This is NOT an official page for GAATN. While GAATN presently enjoys a good working relationship among its board members, it is not, and will not be without controversy as it moves from a construction to an operational phase. I have interviewed numerous board members, both past and present, as well as others involved with the project. My intention here is to reflect my professional view of the GAATN Network. The views expressed by websites I link to are those of that specific organization. The views expressed within these pages are my own. My intention is to present as accurate a factual account of GAATN as possible. Toward this end, I invite corrections and revisions. Please direct questions, complaints, corrections and encouragement to Quinn Stewart, Graduate School of Library and Information Science, The University of Texas at Austin.

There are a number of technical terms related to networking and bandwidth capacities in this paper that public policy officials and other decision makers need to be aware of. The technical glossary section of this document points to some explanatory materials that should be helpful.
This is intended to be version 1.0 of this document. As revisions, corrections, and additions are made, I intend to update the document.
